JEE Main + JEE Advanced — the official syllabus
Every unit and topic below is extracted from the exam bodies' own PDFs, which are
stored alongside this page. No coaching-site material was used anywhere on this page, as a source
or otherwise.
Cycle shown: JEE 2026 · checked 7 September 2026 (2026-09-07)
There is no JEE 2027 syllabus yet. As of the check date, NTA has published nothing
for the 2027 cycle — no syllabus, no information bulletin, no notice. The most recent published
cycle is 2026, and that is what this page shows.
The 2026 syllabus is byte-identical to the 2025 one. A normalised diff of the two
official PDFs gives 616 lines each and four differing hunks, and all four are only the year
string 2025 changing to 2026. That is mild evidence that 2027 will
also be unchanged — it is not a prediction, and nothing here should be treated as one.
Recheck in late October / early November 2026. That is when the Session 1 notice
and bulletin have historically landed — the 2026 pair landed 2025-10-31 and 2025-11-02. This
page is a placeholder for the 2027 cycle until then and cannot update itself.
Scope: JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) — Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry — and the JEE Advanced syllabus. Paper 2A (B.Arch.), Paper 2B
(B.Planning) and the Advanced Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) are deliberately out of scope and
are not reproduced here; Paper 2A/2B Mathematics is in any case identical to Paper 1's.
Main vs Advanced — the differences run both ways
A common assumption is that JEE Advanced simply contains everything in JEE Main
and more. It does not. Each exam names topics the other leaves out, so a plan built on
"Advanced covers Main anyway" has real holes in it. The rows below were disambiguated by hand
against both PDFs rather than by raw string search, because a plain text match gives false
negatives (for example Advanced writes "CFT" where Main writes "crystal field").

Note
What was removed, and when
The official 2026 PDF carries no changelog and no deletion notes at all. It was searched
for delet, remov, reduc, rational,
omitt and exclude; every hit was an ordinary word in an unrelated
sentence. So a student working from an older book or an older question bank gets no warning
from the official source itself that a topic has been dropped. That is what the list below
is for.
A real reduction did happen between the 2021 and the 2025 official documents.
Unit counts went from 16 / 21 / 28 (Maths / Physics / Chemistry) in 2021 to 14 / 20 / 20 in
2025 and 2026.
The exact year cannot be pinned down, and this page will not guess it. No primary document
is reachable for 2022, 2023 or 2024 — NTA's live site keeps only 2025 and 2026, and the Internet
Archive has no capture of this path for 2024. So every statement here is bracketed as
"at some point between the 2021 and the 2025 official documents". Any source that names a
specific year for the reduction is asserting more than the primary documents support.
Gone from Main between 2021 and 2025
Mathematics — Mathematical Induction; Mathematical Reasoning. The 2021 Trigonometry
wording also covered trigonometric equations and heights & distances, which the current
wording drops.
Physics — Communication Systems.
Chemistry — States of Matter (including its Solid State sub-block); Surface Chemistry;
Isolation of Metals; Hydrogen; s-Block Elements; Environmental Chemistry; Polymers; Chemistry
in Everyday Life.
Nine of those Chemistry topics are still examined — by JEE Advanced. States of Matter,
Solid State, Surface Chemistry, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Isolation of Metals, Environmental
Chemistry, Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life all remain live headings in the JEE Advanced
2026 syllabus. They left Main; they did not leave the exam system. Practice on them is not
wasted work if Advanced is on the table.
JEE Advanced's own reduction history was not checked. Only the 2026 brochure was
retrieved, so this page cannot say whether the Advanced syllabus has changed over the years.
"Not checked" is the honest state — it is not the same as "unchanged", and it should not
be read that way.
A note on the JEE Advanced source
JEE Advanced 2026 was organised by IIT Roorkee — taken from that year's official site's own
masthead and footer, not inferred from a rotation pattern. The Advanced site is rebuilt from
scratch each year by whichever IIT takes over, so the 2026 brochure URL is very likely to stop
working once the 2027 site replaces it. That is why the PDF sits next to this page rather than
being merely linked.
The organising institute for JEE Advanced 2027 has not been announced by the Joint Admission
Board. Nothing on the official site names one. Coaching sites do name one, inferring it from
the seven-IIT rotation, but that is an aggregator's guess and this page will not repeat it as
fact. Treat the 2027 organiser as unknown until JAB says otherwise.
There is also no standalone JEE Advanced syllabus PDF. The syllabus exists only as
Annexure-I inside the full information brochure, which is the document vendored here.
One gap worth knowing about
Main Physics Unit 20, Experimental Skills, has no matching chapter in the practice tool.
It names 18 specific experiments — vernier calipers, screw gauge, metre bridge, half-deflection
galvanometer, p-n junction and Zener characteristic curves, refractive index by travelling
microscope, and others — and it is examined. Mathematics (14 of 14) and Chemistry (20 of
20) are fully covered by the existing chapter set; Physics is 19 of 20, and this is the missing
one.
